Component Development issue with External

Hi All,

I have one component which is using java code to display DCR information.

The method public Document getDcrInfo (RequestContext context) is having String contentId = context.getRequest().getParameter("contentId").

I am checking this id with DB id.

My question is, if value does not match the programe will redirect to 404.page .

Please help on this issue.

You probably have to use a precontroller to make that determination, otherwise the page is already streaming and you can't use an HTTP redirect (although you could print out Javascript emulating the same). In a precontroller, you'd return a ForwardAction to the request.getSite().getErrorPage(). How you do that depends on your version of LiveSite, as the class for doing so has been deprecated in 7.x. The controllers get executed first, and are specified at the page level (not clear if you got that based on your snippet). Also, a class probably shouldn't act as both a controller AND an external, but that's beside the point. If your controller redirects the page, the externals on the initial page will not execute. This means that the controller should validate that the externals will have what they need to execute properly. If you need to do some fairly intense computing for that (e.g. validate that you can parse an XML document) then have your controller store that information in the session for your externals to use.

do forward and redirects.

currently you can set response codes like 404. although you do have access to the actual response.

controller will do validation but how it will invoke when we hit the URL, I mean on page load, controller should invoke ?

The controller executes on the server side. It's invoked before the response even starts streaming back to the browser. Have it do your validation, then return a URLForwardAction (or whatever that class was called) if you want to redirect, or null if you want to keep rendering the current page.
