Calling java class from DCT

Hello there,

I need to do the following:

1 - Get Information from the current DCT
2 - Store some of this information in a database ( using java )
3 - Generate some files (no xml) and one HTML according to this information
(Im dont want to create any components or any pages)

Now the best I have is a cgi callout to a JSP, but I have to use a lot of parameters and is messy (beacuse I have to pass them in the URL).

Any ideas?

In general, you can either pass all these parameters or make your server
process parse the DCR and obtain what's needed itself. Other than that,
you've provided no information whatever for any meaningful suggestion.

The only thing I can add, is that this sounds like a much better fit for workflow than it does a cgi-callout in the form itself.

Thank you for your anwser. In the simplest way, what I have to do, is launch some actions from the DCR using the DCR information (as parameters). I would like to run that actions using a java class, I mean, be able to call a java method with some arguments (DCR fields) and then be able to retrieve some information from this call. I think this is not possible.

Calling a JSP I have to use the FormAPI method "callserver" because as far as I know is the only way to add parameters dinamically. This seems to be the only solution I have.

Any other ways to do that will be welcome.

This is certainly possible. You may use the following right from the DCR through FormAPI.

Note that I can not comment of the details, merits, pro's and con's of the proposed
mechanisms, that depends on what you really need. Note that with the possible Ajax
exception, all other "Run Server Side Thread" mechanisms mentioned below are OTB.

- use callServer. You've already noted this one.
- use Ajax instead of callServer.
- use DCR callout.
- use Datasource (depending on your TS Version)

Option #5 (if you need to provide feedback to the user): use a callout button without a URL, capture the onCallout event, compile your list of variables, and use window.open().

Actually, that's exactly how [post=136532]I would recommend[/post] to (and how I myself) implement #3 as well.
It is much more flexible than legacy "callout with URL" syntax.
