Firefox 3.6.14 - can't edit files in Teamsite 6.7.2

Amanda_J_0204

Using Teamsite 6.7.2 sp2, build 7004
Windows 2003

Users are running Windows 7 or Windows XP with Firefox 3.6.14, and Java 6, update 22 or update 24, and CC Pro.

When clicking "edit" next to a file, the right-hand content panel turns black and nothing happens. I've deleted my cache and cookies (and had the users do the same), and this makes no difference. Going to view - my downloaded files also brings up the black panel, and this also displays when clicking on
settings.

I realize this bug may be worked out with the next version of Firefox, whenever that is made available, and I've asked a user to use Internet Explorer until the problem is fixed, but in the meantime, we're about to have a ton of angry users. If anyone knows of a solution that works, other than using IE, or going directly to the file share, please post!

Hi,

First of all, is this issue specific to a particular user or user's machine? I have worked on FF 3.6 and havent encountered any issues with file edits. I take it from your description that you have already cleared browser cache. There are many other ways to open the local file browser on edit.

Still, you may evaluate the following option:
For the file you want to edit, right click on the edit link and choose the option - "copy link location"

Once done, please open a new browser window and paste the copied link there. Please see if the local file browser opens up.

Not sure if this helps but worth a shot!

If I copy the link location, and paste it into a new browser, it doesn't bring up the GUI; it loads the file (similarly to html) in the browser window. This won't help our Firefox users who expect to click edit, and have the file open in the appropriate application.

Interestingly enough, today, when I go to click edit next to a document, it opens just fine in the appropriate editor. So I can edit that, upload it, and close out of the downloaded files section. But if I go to edit the same file again, the right panel turns black, as described in the original post.

Yes, I have cleared my temp files are cookies multiple times, and have had users do the same.

bmazum, when you say "There are many other ways to open the local file browser on edit" were you thinking of opening the files directly through the file share, or having users copy the link location, open their appropriate file editing application, and open the link from the application? Our users probably don't have the patience to deal with that.

At this point, I've asked people to use IE, but that's probably not an appropriate solution for everyone.

There are bigger issues than just TeamSite applets.

Thanks for the link - better to forward this on to users than speculation.
