Maintenance Page on TeamSite while backing up its content

Hi,
We are using TS 721 on Windows 2008 R2 server. We have a backup script that backs up the content daily after freezing the stores. The backup generally takes around 40 minutes.
It happens in the late night (ET) but some of our users in the eastern part of the globe often tend to work during that time.
Is it possible to have a maintenance page which would notify users that the backup is on and they have to stay away from TeamSite. If it is possible, how can it be set on a TS 721 server.

Training users not to touch teamsite during backup is an alternative but if it is possible to create a maintenance page we would certainly want to implement that.

You might be able to put one in place, but better would be to use a NAS device (like a NetApp box) for your backing store, where you could do a freeze, snapshot, thaw, and then do the backup to tape from the snapshot (the snapshot is nearly instantaneous, probably less than a second - so your downtime for service could be less than 10 seconds easily).

This shouldn't even be a concern, really. When backing up, either TeamSite should be shut down or the content stores should be frozen. In the latter case, users would still be able to log into TeamSite but wouldn't be able to make any changes. Anyway, if you're using Apache as your web server, I believe it's possible to configure it to redirect requests to another URL when a page is not available (i.e. when TeamSite services are shut down). You might even be able to get away with using a custom error page for the 404/500/502/503 error.

To expand on Adam's suggestion, if you're using a local disk instead of a NAS, you can still reduce your downtime in a similar way: freeze/shut down teamsite, copy the store to a local folder on the same disk, then thaw/start teamsite again. You would then transfer the copy to tape.

Note - supposedly TS 7.3 should have the ability to do backups without shutting down / freezing TS ... though they also seem to be recommending the use of SAN/NAS storage for the backing store - and we still don't know when its coming out (since late June, early July has come and gone ;-)

We are on windows 2008 server and use IIS7.5

Using NAS will be a good idea, will suggest it to the client since dont know when TS 7.3 will be out.
