Time out link to an OR gate is not allowed

I have an email task linked to an OR gate using a timeout link. But the WFM complains that "Time out link to an OR gate is not allowed". Has anyone came across this scenario and know what need to be done?

Timeout links can only be used between tasks - an OR gate is not a task.

If you can describe in more detail what you are trying to do, perhaps we can point you in the right direction.
