Question on Messages table in the teamsite database

Hi,

The "messages" table in teamsite database is growing in size and I am trying to clean it up by backing up and purging. I also want to change the datatype of messageblob column from long raw to varchar2(4000). Did anyone do that before? Can I do that? Or will there be any problems in doing so. Please help.

something amiss in your eventsubsystem or its consumers. Messages normally get deleted as soon as consumed. Running DAS or search?

search is not working for a long time now.

aaah there's your problem.. Messages meant for the search indexer are not getting consumed (and thus not being deleted) Either get search working or stop the event sub system

Will doing that purge the present data in the table. If no is the answer then can you please let me know if is it ok to change the column type from long raw to a varchar2(4000). Thanks.

you are in a better position than us to answer that question because you know your env and if you are using eventsubd for anything.
Assuming you don't need TS Search and you don't have other subscribers to eventsubd, then no it wont hurt anything to stop evensubsystem for good.

Yes like CRSB said if you are not running Search or DAS. Then you do not need the eventsubsystem.. you can stop it like so{iwhome}/private/bin/iweventsubd stop then zap the Databases
