Copying external files into CS versus importing

Environment is Solaris 10, TS 6.7.1

A user has copied files from an external server into their workarea via the iwmnt mount point and then submitted these files.

I can't determine whether this is functionally equivalent to importing the files using the Content Center Import process. Should these files be deleted and brought back into the content store using CC Import?

They can do it that way. We've been doing it that way for years. In fact, it helps to overcome a java issue that prevents all the files in a users import window from showing. The java issue is dependent on what version of java the client is running.
