WFM-Passing the value of task variable into a global variable

hi ,
im working on Workflow modeler 7.1 . i have a requirement that , In an external task the metadata (expiry date) of the attached file is retrieved and some manipulations are done in perl file . Now i want to pass this value into a global variable and use it in other tasks. I tried using task-->setvariaable($variable , $ value);but it did not work.Can any suggest me the procedure to pass a value from external task to a global variable.

You're only using the task variable. The task variable will only hold task specific task variables. You'll need to get the workflow object, then set the variable in the workflow object instead.

Ideally we can only re-assign value to a Job variable from an external task script, i.e. we can't add a new job variable from the external task script directly.

So In that case you can use "wf var start op" or "wf var finish op" properties in the job/task definition to enable a job variable on start or end of that task events.

Who is we? We can absolutely assign a value to a job variable from a task. And who mentioned adding a new job variable? Way to confuse and complicate the very simple issue...

Thanks Dave Smith . The issue is resolved by using a job variable. The value of a task variable can be assigned to job variable and it can be used in other tasks.
