prune and graft
msrich
We're migrating from W2K TS 5.0.1 to W2K TS 5.5.2 (on another server). We'd like to change our branching structure somewhat in conjunction with the migration. We're told that the data conversion utiltiy can only convert/copy a branch to the same exact spot in the branching structure on the target.
Is there any way to prune and graft branches once they're over on TS 5.5.2? For example, if I have
\main\branch1\branch2, can I move branch to to sit directly under main as \main\branch2?
What do other clients do if they want to change their branching structure?

I think the best approach would be to first migrate your backing store to the new 5.5.2 server, get that running and tested, then proceed to the next stage of modifying your branch structure. I'd be loathe to do both at once.
To prune, one copies editions from an old branch to a new one (via copy-to-area + submit + publish) and then deletes the old branch. The same process can also be used to "graft", ie, moving a branch's contents from one branch to another. This has been discussed in this forum already (try search.)
