Logfile size control

Ive noticed that our iwutild_cmdout.log file has log info in it from a long while back. I dont recall in training them saying anything about how to trim some of the information out of these files. Can anyone point me in the right direction thanks.

You can always copy it to a back up place and clear it during your nightly backup. Thats the very easy part.

Im wondering how most admins do this. DO they edit logfiles and delete information and save the file or are there any tools within admin console?

Im both teamsite developer and admin here so its hard to cover all of this info.

I have some logfiles with info from 2006. Would like to make them more current.

OD does Log Rotation since time immemorial. TS for all I know still doesn't.

TS 7.x does some log rotation - unfortunately not all the ones that tend to grow a lot (e.g.: most of the ones in the iwui/ directory) - if you go to the Admin UI from CCPro (in 7.x) you will see a section for logs / log rotation.

For everything else, you generally need to stop the services, move the existing log files out of the way (e.g.: rename foo.log to foo.1.log) and then restart the services.

If you just want to clear them out, you can sometimes do that by redirecting "nothing" into the log file (e.g.: cat /dev/null > foo.log) - sometimes, however, this results in a log file of the same size as the original - filled with null characters.
