there is a container(Con1) with a textbox say linktext which is replicating.
i can add as many containers by clicking on the "+" of Con1. every time i add a container this way, i increment a variable(say i).

there is another container(Con2). default =0. it has 20 textboxes which are hidden. the moment i click on '+' of Con2, some textboxes get unhidden. the no of textboxes that get unhidden is equal to the value of "i". so i need to pass this variable "i" to an item...to unhide some of its texboxes...can sumone guide me on this?

Process IWItem.getChildren() to come out with the no of replicants in your first container.

Do this using onReplicantAdded for your second container. Now once you get this value, use it show/hide yor text fields.

i know the no of replicants in first container(using the variabl counter). Also,now the requirement has changed. In my second container(Con2), i have one more container(say Con2Inner) which has a textbox. When i replicate Con2, the Con2Inner container should be replicated depending on the value of the variable counter. Like if the value of counter is 4,there shd be 4 Con2Inner containers inside each Con2 container. the problem is how do i do this using javascript? Is there any alternative option like using perl script?

I think you mean n number of instances of your inner container if the value of the couner is n from the top container?

FormAPI does enable you to add instances to a container.

Perl probably isn't really an option here - as you need to (apparently) do this calculation dynamically based on other input within the DCR. Perl is good for inline scripts. It's also reasonable for callServer and callout scripts - but the first is asynchronous and the second requires an explicit action by the user (pressing a distinct button) that probably won't serve your purposes that well.

So that leaves javascript / FormAPI - which does provide functionality for what you are describing - but it's up to you, as the developer, to come up with a design that meets your requirements and then implement it -- at this point it looks like your floundering around without really spending any time trying to figure out the details of how you might do this - and looking for someone here to just hand you some code.

I suggest you spend a bit more time trying to do this yourself and, if you find a problem in your implementation - then ask for assistance with sufficient details for us to try to provide it.
