WFM:Reminder logic for email task

Hi ,
I have a requirement that , reminder email has to be sent to the user after certain interval of time. So a time out has be set before a email task . The value for this time out comes from a task variable of external task.I tried using time out link before the email task . But in time out link the values can be given directly or from a gobal variable. Is there any alternate approach for achieving it.

Your description is not altogether clear.
Are you saying that you want this email to be sent after a certain time interval - regardless of which task is currently active? Or after a certain time interval if a specific task hasn't yet been transitioned?

The latter is done by using a timeout link associated with the given task, the timeout value could potentially be reset by some other externaltask script (you would need to know the name of the task associated with the timeout and then would have to retrieve the task object for that task name and alter the timeout from there.

The former can be done but it's a bit trickier because it involves having a split transition within your workflow such that you start a timer at the same time as pursuing the end goal and then you bring everything together again at the end. If the active track hasn't reached the rejoin point before the time elapses, then you trigger a timeout from there.
