check for existence of dcr before loading it

im my tpl, I load dcrs using the following code --


iwpt_load_dcr($dcra, 'dcrlocal', 't');

How do I check if the dcr exists before the tpl loads it? My process is such that the dcr to be loaded does not initially exist, and can be created afterwards, but I still neean output file to be generated, without the value from the dcr that did not load. Right now, I am getting a cannot load dcr error and thus the output file does not get generated.

Presumably you're doing this within an iw_perl block - as such you can utilize all the various Perl functions for testing the existence of a path - though make sure you're using a file system path and not a vpath for the test (the vpath may work on Unix systems, but won't work on Windows systems).

The basic code would be something like:

use TeamSite::Config;
my $iwmount = TeamSite::Config::iwgetmount();
...
my $areavpath = get_area_vpath_somehow();
my $dcra = "area_relative_path_to_dcr";
if (-e "$iwmount$areavpath$dcra") {
    # it exists - load it and do stuff
}
else {
    # it does not exist, do stuff that does not involve DCR data
}

Are you sure the first part of the code is evaluating to true? If not, then 'a' has no meaning in the second piece of code - which should only be executed if the first code evaluated to true.
Also - I seem to recall that iw_value prefers single-quotes around it's attribute values (this could be pure myth - but it's worth trying just in case)

I am testing for true thus...

The value of $dcra is written to the page, but the value of a in the second piece of code is empty.

Ghoti and all other perl/ts experts, I am stuck on this now. I see no reason why @dcra should not load if it exists and I can print it's name on the page.

Or am I missing something here?

If you look at the documentation for TeamSite: Smiley Tongue

T::iw_perl - specifically for the information on iwpt_load_dcr() you should see the following:[indent]iwpt_load_dcr($file,$mode,$is_global)
[indent]Parses $file (where $file is a DCR/XML file virtualized by $mode).
Returns the root node of the parse
......
my $root_1 = iwpt_load_dcr('a/b.xml','dcrlocal','t');
......[/indent][/indent]What this means, in short, is that the path provided to iwpt_load_dcr (in 'dcrlocal' mode) is a relative path - whereas the path you are providing for the existence test is (or should be) an absolute file system path.

Going back to my earlier posted example code:

The areavpath should be the path to the root of the [work]area.

I think I mis-represented part of the test code before - the test code should use a full file system path to the DCR; the load code with 'dcrlocal' mode should probably take a data-relative path - I'm not sure whether it should have a leading slash or not - you'll have to play around with it a bit (I'm assuming that the DCR to be loaded is of the same data-type as the DCR that is initially being processed - if not, then you don't want to be using 'dcrlocal' mode)
The DCR path should be area-relative - i.e. beginning with \\templatedata

Try making those changes and see if that works.
