Custom Layout Types!

[font=Courier New]I am trying to create custom Layout Type. As described in the document, I created a .xml files under my workarea "WORKAREA/workarea/iw/config/fixed-layout". What I had in my mind is, this type will start appearing automatically under Layout Type, but when I read further it looks like I have to do something inside toolkit (iw-home/local/config/lib/content_center/livesite_customer_src/etc/conf/livesite_customer/pagetype-config.xml).

I didn't get much from the document for further steps, could you please help me, in knowing next steps ..

Thanks. I have copied descriptive.xml from the document to /iw/config/fixed-layout, it's not coming under LayoutType.

First of all you need to create a valid xml document, the syntax is pretty easy (canvass / row / areas) etc.

Then you need to place it under iw/config/fixed-layout.

Create a new page and try to look upon different combination of page type (html / xhtml ) and the layouts that you get, it should appear automatically under there.

btw, you cannot convert a freestyle page to fixed style page.

I have created valid xml with name descriptive.xml under the folder iw/config/fixed-layout.

Then I go and edit config file "\local\config\lib\content_center\livesite_customer_src\etc\conf\livesite_customer\pagetype-config.xml"

Then I create following page type

Then I try to create layout which I have registered with name "descriptive" with below code,

Here my question what should be the stylesheet and class? I have copied above stylesheet and class from sample file which comes from installation.

Do I need to create my own stylesheet and class or is there OOTB generic stylesheet and class which I can use for creating custom layouts ?

you are mixing up "Fixed Layouts" (Appendix I, ls-manual) and "Custom Page Types" (Appendix C, ls-manual; refered to as 'doctype support', what a stupid name since it conflicts with the html-doctype).

So please explain which of both you refer to.

I am trying for Appendix I (Custom Fixed Layouts), page number 240 and 241 (ts_70_spdev_v01_en.pdf).

I created a valid xml (descriptive.xml) as mentioned, now I want to test it on my page. I thought it will appear under a particular page type, but it's not coming.

When I copy 3-column-fixed.xml and 3-column-liquid.xml to /iw/config/fixed-layout from main/component-guide branch, they start appering under Default HTML Page Type as shown in attached image (untitled.zip).

I am not getting why my descriptive.xml is not appearing and what I am missing here ?

Ok, in that case, as karel in the 2nd post already mentioned, don't bother with page-config.xml.

Create a descriptive.xml in your WA. And you are done.

If it fails try this:
1. clear all caching, maybe reset your iwov services and try again
2. start with a new page because existing pages in another layout can not be converted to a new layout
3. check the servlet-logs for errors
4. check your descriptive.xml for validness (note, the example in the ref has some annoying errors!)

It should just work, if your xml is valid.

One more thing, your custom layout will ONLY show for pagetypes (from page-config) that have a layout which name matches 'fixed-layout'. This string-match is hard-code in the livesite-code!
