ESS was not installed on 7.2?

Hi,
i did an installation of 7.2 on redhat _x64, everything went well and no errors. the ui is up and running. however, i don't think the eventsubsystem was installed. i can't find the jmsconfignew.xml under iw-home/ess/conf, i cant find iweventsubd clt in iw-home/private/bin, i don't see iweventsubd.log under iw-home/local/logs, and nothing is running on port 3035 which i set during the installation.
looking at the install log, it said that it installed the webapp eventsubsystem with the configuration i provided (db, port #).
i can see that DB tables related to ESS were created:
ACTIVEMQ_ACKS
ACTIVEMQ_LOCK
ACTIVEMQ_MSGS
i tried to see if anything changed in 7.x concerning the ESS but i couldn't find anything in the release notes or docs. they still refer to iweventsubd to restart the service and jmsconfignew.xml for configurations.
anyone seen this before?
am i missing something?

ESS is hidden in 7.1 I have noticed that as well. So do not assume it is not there. No log (that I can find), no startup in services.

how about the jmsconfignew.xml? can you see it? if not, could be moved to somewhere and the docs were never updated?

Do not have one. This is a fresh install 7.1 server.

the same here, so the behavior is the same in 7.1 n 7.2 and i don't see anything in the docs which mentions these changes. i wonder what IWOV guys have to say about it.

ESS no longer uses JMS -- instead it uses ActiveMQ. Main configuration file for ActiveMQ is called "broker-config.xml".

Thanks VP, how about restarting ESS? do you know how that's done? is there new log file for the service?

Is this in the docs? i looked thru 7.0-7.2 docs including the rn and i couldn't find anything that talks about these changes in the ESS, it actually still uses jmsconfignew.xml and iweventsubd.

Relevant log files should be:

1. jboss-home/server/default/log/server.log
2. you standard servletd / servlet_out log files.

any ideas how to troubleshoot ESS issues in 7.x?

i can't find in relevant log that will tell me why ESS is not running, we used to find that info in iw-home/local/logsiweventsubd.log. i checked the suggested log and it says:

i think the error just says tht it couldnt connect to ESS, which is not running.
i verified that nothing is running on 3035 port.

@csrb. Careful with your "7.x" reasoning. Only in 7.2 is EventSubSystem integrated with the ApplicationContainer. It seems to me that the only way to restart/reset the ESS in 7.2 is indeed a full restart of the ApplicationContainer = iwjbossd.

@vpatel: you mention broker-config.xml file. I found it 2x - so which one is master?

I found this under TeamSite\eventsubsystem\conf
and also under ApplicationContainer\server\default\deploy\activemq-ear-5.3.0.ear\activemq-ra.rar

same for some other conf files:ess.properties, activemq-jms-ds.xml ...

is one location master and continuously copied to the other location (like with the livesite-customer etc)? or should we ignore one of them?

@manz. We're also noticing the TS Index server not coming up during boot.

I found that the ESS starts up within the ApplicationContainer (iwjboss), but on our very light sandbox (VMWare Win2003 - TeamSite 7.2), it's only ready some 10 minutes after the system boot and iwjboss startup. By that time TS Index gave up trying to connect to ESS, and no longer tries to start

I'm guessing I will wait until we get some decent hardware, to see if the same happens there too.

after working on this issue with IWOV i learned that ESS is gone from teamsite and was completely replaced with iwjobss and activeMQ. of course the documentation never mentioned such a change and still instructs the users to use iweventsubd cmds and talks about ESS.

my issue was caused by iwjboss was not running because of database connection issues. i just had to resolve my DB issues then iwjboss was up.

what is the error you get when you try to start search? (please post the error from iw.tsindex.log).
can you telnet to TS server on 3035 from Search server?

No, we're unable to connect to TS server on 3035 and this port is not running on TS server.

in this case forget about Search for now and just get your iwjboss running first. make sure that the service is listening on 3035 before you attempt to starting up Search.
i suggest you open a case with IWOV and post these log files on here:
