In-context Editing in TS 7.1

Our business users are very interested in the idea of in-context editing. The release notes for TeamSite 7.1 mention enhanced in-context (inline) content editing support. Has anyone implemented this in previous versions of TeamSite or 7.1? Does anyone know where I can find more information regarding this? I briefly looked through the documentation for TS but didn't find any relevant information.

I believe that if you look closely, you'll probably find that the statement is in regards to the use of SitePublisher and LiveSite. If you already have the license for those add-on product pieces, fine; if not - you'll have to shell out a bunch more $$'s to get them, and then you'll have to learn all about designing components and such.

Almost every cms vendor there days mentions 'in context editing' in their marketing & release documents. Almost none live up to the promise.

In almost all business cases you will have to write some custom code your self to make it work. The best approach I have found recently is blogged here http://www.teamsitetuesday.co.uk/teamsite-toolbar/ but can only be used with firefox.

We already have SitePublisher/LiveSite but the component implementation of in-context editing is less than satisfactory. It has very limited capabilities and we do not want to make a "site-editing" component visible on our production website. I was hoping that Autonomy/IWOV would provide a different way of implementing this besides in a component.

If all you want is edit this page type of link then that is available OOTB using the preview toolbar in TS.

If you want this on your website then this should be fairly easily customizable based on your criteria. I've seen customers show that link to anybody who's look at their site from their internal network, certain IP addresses, certain logged in user, etc. In fact there is an OOTB SP component to do this. However, how you control access to that "Edit this page" link is upto your requirements.

There was something presented in GearUp 2007 by Royal Caribbean team, they talked about their implementation of inline editing to improve TS user experience.
