Getting Teamsite Environment variable using JAVA

Hi,

I'm a beginner to Teamsite. Can anyone help me with - How do I get Teamsite environment variables using JAVA. I need to get the current workarea.

I tried using,

System.getenv("IW_WORKAREA");

It works fine and I'm able to get the workarea if I'm using in a DCT with inline command.

But if I'm to use it in the Job Instantiation Form (custom_instantiation.cfg), I get a null pointer exception.

Is there any way to get the work area in my JIF which I create using Java with the help of inline command.

Kindly help me out.

For WFM Custom Instantiation screens - you should be looking at the WFM manual and the FormsPublisher FormAPI manual - mostly the latter, as you will likely be retrieving the information via javascript from 'form' variables rather than from environment variables.

Why should you care? It's there, there are accessor methods in FormAPI for it, use it.
Do you need this from inline processing?
Perhaps if you explained a bit more about what you are trying to do (and how you are trying to do it) - it might make more sense and we might be able to give you other alternatives.

I need this form from inline processing.

Actually what I'm trying to do is:

1) I've to call a JAVA file using inline command to dynamically populate the items in the data capture template.

2) In the JAVA file, I need to populate the number of items based on the properties file which I've created in the workarea. i.e I've two branches (i) POC & (ii) POC1. I have file called properties.txt in which I've given how many items to populate. So I need to get the workarea to read the properties.txt file and then populate the items.

For this I used, System.getenv("IW_WORKAREA"); in JAVA. In this case, the workarea was returned successfully.

3) But, if I'm to do the above in a JIF(custom instantiation.cfg) to populate the items dynamically, System.getenv("IW_WORKAREA"); - returns NullPointer Exception.

I need get the workarea in my java file so I can read the properties file and then populate the items to be returned to the DCT using inline processing.

I'm attaching the java code.

Are you saying that the number of items appearing in the custom instantiation form changes based on the branch / properties file - or that the values of items appearing in the custom instantiation form changes?

If the former - yes, you would need to use an inline in order to adjust the XML of the "DCT" - however, according to the documentation:[indent]A custom instantiation screen can contain only those fields that are exposed as Configurable or Datasource variables in the workflow.[/indent]This would seem to call into question whether what you are trying to do (if this is what you are trying to do) is actually supported.

If the latter, you could potentially handle this via a FormAPI callServer() invocation of a server-side script that could be passed parameters (form variable values, which may be able to include the workarea information).

Also, are you initiating the job from within a workarea via Submit or New Job - or are you initiating the job from the Workflow Tab (CCPro) or some other non-branch-oriented location (CCStd portal page or generic wizard interface)? If the latter - that might explain why you're not seeing the information you're looking for...
