Customize the default file operation - delete, create, move, rename

We are on TeamSite 6.7.2 SP2 - Solaris. We want to extend the basic file operations to include our business processes. For examples

• When delete a generated file – automatically delete the DCR and start a workflow
• When create a folder –automatically or semi-automatically (with a pop-up) creates a matching folder in all templates folder in /templatedata
• When delete a folder– automatically scan if any files in the sub-folder are locked and attach them to workflow and does the same in /templatedata, etc
• Rename – since we have a direct one-to-one generated file and dcr relationship, we also want to rename the dcr
• Move file/folder – automatically or semi-automatically (with a pop-up) move the file in dcr

We’ve looked into Trigger and standard menu config. We can’t seem to find a way to extend the default action to accomplish the goal. The only way that we can do it is through Custom UI.

The problem if we use custom UI is that if we create a new ‘Delete’ button, and assign to a role, the user who is assigned the role will see a disabled button (old) and the new button.

The only way around it (so it won't show a disabled button) is to display the custom menu by group which adds additional administration process – which feels like a hack to me.

I hope that TeamSite must have a better way of handling these basic file operations. I am sure that we are not the only company has the need to extend those file operations. I will really appreciate if someone on this forum can share their implementation, strategy and recommendations on this subject.

I approach this from a workflow method instead

• When delete a generated file – automatically delete the DCR and start a workflow

Create a delete workflow (which deletes the file), submit the file to the delete workflow

• When create a folder –automatically or semi-automatically (with a pop-up) creates a matching folder in all templates folder in /templatedata

I use FormAPI to create the folder when a DCR is created and then workflow build the folders required during the GenerateContent step

• When delete a folder– automatically scan if any files in the sub-folder are locked and attach them to workflow and does the same in /templatedata, etc

Again can be done with delete workflow

• Rename – since we have a direct one-to-one generated file and dcr relationship, we also want to rename the dcr

Haven't done this before, but a WF would be easy.

• Move file/folder – automatically or semi-automatically (with a pop-up) move the file in dcr
