Create .page from DCT

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to create page from a DCT.
This .page have to be saved in a calculated directory and name.

For now it was quite easy to launch the editor to create a new page but i want to pass parameter Name Path and layout so the user can't modify them when he clicks on "create a new page". The folder may have to be created if it doesn't already exist (ex : sites/my_new_calculated_&_not_yet_created_folder/my_new_page )

Barely the same problem : can we create folder dynamically?

Is there a way to make this, maybe in perl or maybe a jsp?
javascript? (<-- don't have the faith for this one )

Your requirement isn't too clear.

While I agree with VP that your requirements are lacking, I will throw out a couple things. I expect some training is in your near future.

.page files can use DCRs. So you first have to decide are you going to build a page using a DCR or are you planning to replace the DCR completely ?

The former *should* be pretty easy, use one .page for a template. Have a script copy it to the correct file location and update the page with the correct DCR.

If you want to replace the DCR, then you have to put the correct data into the correct locations in the .page. Again, use one as a template and it becomes a mail merge program. I have done this and it worked. I did not regen IDs or anything and it seemed to work (7.1).

One point to remember, we are trained professionals, don't try this at home.

I'll try to be more effective in the description of requirements.

In my DCT, i shall have a way to create some .page .
Their name and location (may be a new folder / subfolder) are based on the value of a text field of the DCT.
There is no DCR to describe the .page .
User can create a .page by clicking on a button.
When created, the path should appears in a text area.
If there a value in the text area, then the 'Create' button should become an 'edit' button.

My main issue is to create the folders to put the .page with a correct name & properties.

Now i had a look in the structure of the .page it seems easier for the properties.

I will try your method nipper, seems a good idea with the copy script in perl. Will give feedback Smiley Happy

OK, I *really* hope you have some help with more experience, you will need it.

The question of which drives the content, does the .page generate the DCR or does the DCR generate the .page ? People tend to do the former.

However you can do this with call servers and a lot of formapi, but it is not trivial.

Your requirement still isn't too clear or it maybe just the fact that you are new to the IW CMS solution. In any case, like Andy said: are you trying to create the .page automatically when a a corresponding DCR is created? Or the other way around?

The .page are created when the user fills the DCT, during the completion, and their paths are registered into the DCR. Even if the DCT is not validated and turned into DCR, the .page are created. (weird requ from market)

Ah : DCT is not a .page DCT, it is intended to create DCR which describe a "virtual" page which will point on one of these .page depending of several parameters. Maybe it was the 'dark' point to understand.

Ok here is how I did it :

I made a callout on a button, with just a label. There a event on this callout (formapi).
In the handler parameters are calculated, then added in the GET method for the call of a servlet in Ajax.
Processing the copy/new/modify file in java and it returns value describing the servlet result. (.page are handled as XML files, which allows to force parameters)
Servlet runs perfectly in local, and it shouldn't be too difficult to move in CC environment.

Hope it can help those who have the same needs as me.
