Dynamic Page Creation in DCT
saibaba76
do you guys have any idea how to create dynamic pages in datacapture trough list box or radio button.
Example: I have list box with A,B,C,D in DCT.If I select A I need to disply some content, like If I select B I need to disply some other content(not A content).

Correct me if I am understanding it wrong. You want your datacapture to have dynamic content and should display some field and change some fields as per the selection from a dropdown list in that datacapture. Right?
Once the datacapture is redered, then it won't be able to fetch any more dynamic behaviour. But, you could do something similar with other techniques:
1. Have a CGI callout run a custom CGI for this dynamic content that you need. Ofcourse you could use PERL to write the CGI code.
2. Are you running TeamSite 5.5.2? If so, then you could make use of formAPI. FormAPI has to be enabled in iw.cfg and that allows JavaScript code to run in datacapture. That can provide certain level of dynamic behaviour on client side.
If it is the presentation template where you want to check for the options of this select box, then it is a different point. So let me know if you are talking about presentation template or not.
Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for you reply.

-----you are right.

----I am using 5.0.1.it seems CGI callout might work for me.can you provide me one example for that.

On page 184 of your TeamSite Templating Developer's guide, there is a detailed explanation with examples for CGI callout.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
we need to show form with differnet set of items based on user selection outside templating (i.e we intend to call DCT using url commands from a jsp)
is it possible to send any dynamic params to inline command/ callserver returning substituion xml in init method their by show the dct form etc.

As far as I know, no. But even if it were, how were you planning on handling the form rendering on edit? I really question your design. If you have different versions of a form, why not create multiple data-types for these within your category and then call the appropriate one based on whatever criteria you've selected in your jsp?

Hi,
we have different data-types and our authors are not happy with entering content individually for each data-type, they need one area in which they want to enter all the data, and system/programs will seperate content into different data-type dcrs. To acheive this, we are looking/exploring different options. one of the option we thought of is, create a empty datacapture.cfg and populate it with subsitution xml thru inline based on the type of web-page he wants to create(based on web-page -> we have different web-page layouts, each takes centain combination of data types only).

You might consider creating a "one-size-fits-all" DCT and using FormAPI to determine which fields are shown/hidden based on the value of always-shown fields.

Hi,
Above one is other approach we are looking at, but in this approach we need to load all the data types even though we no need them for a web page creation. If a certain web-page creation involves 2 data-types, even then I need to load all the remaining 12 data-types (we have total 14 data-types). Loading of all the data-types taking too much time.
