File name validation during generate dcr.

Hi all,

I have a requirement to implement a validation, whenever a user tries to provide a file name which contains space or special character such as $,@,! during Save or Generate, it should throw an alert to the user saying "Invalid Characters in file name" and should abandon save or generate.

I have successfully implemented the same for Save by putting a validation in the onSaveNameSpecified event handler.

Now, I have to do the same for generate but I am not sure how to go about it. I thought of doing it using OnGenerate but that triggers before the Output file name dialog box appears. I need to somehow capture this before the file gets generated.

Is there anyway I can alert the user (in case of an invalid filename) as soon as he/she clicks Ok on the Output file name/location dialog box.

I am working on Teamsite 6.7.1 on Windows 2003 server.

your premise is wrong.

A user should never name the generated file. It should always be autogenerated. That is best done via workflow.

Users would usually just preview a page and when they submit it to workflow, it gets auto generated with the correct name (which one would expect would map to the DCR name)

Is there anyway we can achieve that?
I want to be totally sure before going to the client with any other alternative.

Maybe. But the requirement is stupid. Someone needs to tell the client to do it right. A client would be thrilled to have autogeneration set up instead of making a user do the naming.

Read the FormAPI manual there are som events that will help.

You can probably remove "generate" button and instead auto-generate via Form-API / CallServer with the onSave or some other event.

I can't remove generate button and make auto naming for DCR's.

I need to valid the filename which users provides while generating.

Can you please let me know how you sorted out the problem.
