We're using the iwmetadata_custom form in our submit wft to add extended attributes to non-DCR content (pdfs, ppt, etc). Is there a way to add the file path & publish date automatically as extended attributes in the worflow if the file is not tagged by the end-user? Thanks.

You may for example create an external Task and use GetFiles method to obtain attached Files.
Use iwextattr to get File's extended attributes and set your defaults wherever needed.
