Hi,
We have one production server & one development server. Recently our production server was very unstable and created lot of issues due to some patch (OS) installation. Due to this, we are looking into the option of having development server as a HA server as well for the production server.

Is it a good idea to proceed with this thought and what strategy can be followed?

Any other ideas, pros & cons will be much appreciated.

In general - an HA server should be spec'd out the same as the server it is meant to augment - i.e. a production-level system for a production-level system - and you need to maintain some process that correctly replicates the backing store information so that the loss of data between primary and secondary servers is minimal (if not non-existant)

I don't think using a DEV server as backup for a PROD server is recommended.

Hi, could you adivse what OS patch (windows?) you applied? We just applied a Windows security patch and our sitepublisher env preview started having issues

Thank you for the reply. At this point, business does not want to spend on a HA setup.

Our PROD & DEV setup (Solaris 10, TS671 SP1, OD 620) are same & mirrored when the servers are built recently. We have our content store in SAN. Backup is happening by breaking a mirror and copying the mirror to the tape or whatever. So usually our downtime will be less that 15 min only.

We can implement the same method so that PROD content store can be copied into DEV box as a seconday store. The data synch-up can happen everynight so the data difference will be one day old only.

bascially business wants an environment to publish any time sensitive content if the PROD goes down for few hours.

Do you think it is feasible to implement?

We are running on Solaris 10 and I am not sure about the OS patch details. It is something related with SAN patch.
