Extended Attributes and Visual Annoates on a file

When we are referring to EAs on a file, we are referring to metadats associated with the file.

I have not used Visual Annotates feature as yet and I am confused with Visual Annotates feature. Does Visual Annotates mean the notes added on the file using digital pen ? I have seen at lot of places users adding notes on PDF documents using a pen on computer screen directly.
Is that called visual annotates in TeamSite, that is being stored ? If I am not using Visual Annotates feature, will these annotates not be stored ?

I believe VisualAnnotate only works on HTML files and not on PDFs (I could be wrong, I've never really used it). It tracks the annotations and then records them as "special" EAs on the file (the EAs are stored as an XML string)

If you do not have VisualAnnotate configured (and I believe it is only for use within properly configured workflows, not straight from the GUI) - then you won't have the option to annotate the files and therefore there will be no such annotations stored.
