TPL HTML Generation

Hi,
I have a requirement to generate multiple HTML files based on the input fields in the DCR. What I am trying to find out is there any possibility to do this one tpl only? I looked at documents, and found out that iwgen allows me to generate the HTML. Could not find more on this as this came very urgent to me and hence posting here. Anyone familiar with such case and can guide on this is appreciated.

Yes You can generate multiple files
If you are using one tpl then you should use TeamSite: Smiley Tongue

T::iw_ostream to generate multiple files

If you are using multiple tpl then implement the logic in workflow to chose the tpl and output path

I checked that and it will work for file generation. The one thing that I am unsure about is to preview the file. If I have to generate two more htmls and then one from tpl directly which I would like to preview. Is it possible that the tpl used to generate external HTML can be used to preview also?

Even I am not sure about preview functionality with different tpl and multiple output. May be Boris/Adam/Andy can help on this from their experience.

Sure thing. If you only have one TPL then that is used for preview and actual generate. If you have multiple TPLs you can auto-select which one you want to preview against using FormAPI.

If I understand the question correctly - you're asking about this situation:

DCR-A is processed by PT-A and produces OUTPUT-A, OUTPUT-B, and OUTPUT-C

Correct?

If you do a Generate or Preview via the GUI, then all three output files will be created but only the "primary" output file will then be rendered in a browser window for viewing.

Preview, "unfortunately", names output files with zz_tst_* prefix strings. This means that if you don't have any links between the primary and additional output pages, you will not be able to preview the additional output pages. Conversely, if you can programmatically set those links correctly in the output (I believe Nipper once posted something about this) it will allow you to preview all three files.

If the situation was:

DCR-A is processed by PT-A to produce OUTPUT-A
DCR-A is processed by PT-B to produce OUTPUT-B
DCR-A is processed by PT-C to produce OUTPUT-C

Then the question has already been answered by others - whichever PT you choose will result in an output file that can be previewed.

But there is a section for Advanced users on the HTML help page of iw_ostream, it says
If this tag generates additional output files, and the template is being "previewed" (see -iw_pt-preview in the FLAGS documentation of TeamSite:T::iw_pt), then the <iw_ostream> tag will exit with an error message.
Is this something that I have to take care of.

Hmm - well it's nice to know it's documented (good ol' jcox). I've never used iw_ostream. The one time I dealt with PTs generating multiple files I did the entire thing in Perl using basic Perl I/O - but that was many years ago (8?)
