New OD Receiver on new Target Host

hi,

we have just set up a new OD receiver on a new target server,we have made relevant entries in odrcvr.xml file,and server is up and running ,

i have made followin change:-

1)change in odnodes.xml to enter new target node
2)creating a deployment config file to point to new target node
3)change in odrcvr.xml to allow from TS server

even after these steps ,we are getting the follwing error in the log files

"Exceeded all 3 retries to get a connection with the target OpenDeploy host.
Failed creating socket"

please find attached the log file also for your reference

any guidance on where we are going wrong?

Are you behind a firewall, if so, is port 20014 allowed through?

Are there proper entries in the hosts odbase.xml and odnodes.xml files using either the hostname or the ip address of the new receiver(target server).

Are there correct entries in the odreceiver.xml file on the target server?

Is OpenDeploy in a running state on the target server and has a valid license file?

The last question above is probably key - when you install OD, it does not [always?] start the service - you should verify that it is running there, and on the port you specified in the base server's odnodes.xml file.

Add to the above question, did you restart the base server after making the configuration changes?

actually last time the error was related to connection between two server due to Q1 that issue seems to be solved,today we are getting the below error in log file

[php] ERROR: Connection failed: Could not find matching OpenDeploy client for [server] [/php]

PFA all the four relevant files

we havve made relevant entries in all the files,i m not sure where we are making mistake since now telnet is also working between two servers,please guide if you have some idea?

Which of the following didi you try?

" in that error message? Since you've already posted the hostnames and ip addresses in the configuration files there's no reason to be vague about the information in the error message.

Looking at your config files I see that you refer to the target server by two different names.

sender_odbase.txt
localnode name="IM-Staging-C4826665VW02-Web" host="205.138.114.152" in

target_odrcvr.txt
localNode name="C4826665VW02" host="205.138.114.152" in the receiver

I would suggest matching them up. See the info below from the OpenDeploy®
Installation Guide.

[PHP]
When a deployment is initiated, the receiving OpenDeploy server will match the name of
the sending server host with each of the nodes listed in the allowedHosts element of its
base server or receiver configuration file. The host names are compared as case-insensitive
strings. If this comparison results in a match, the deployment is allowed to continue.
If the string comparison does not result in a match, OpenDeploy will attempt to determine
and match the IP addresses of the sending server host with the hosts listed in the
allowedHost element. If this comparison results in a match, the deployment is allowed to
continue. If the comparison fails, the deployment is not allowed to take place.

I'm not saying this is the solution, but it can't hurt.

Thanks for your detailed reply,

i tried option 4 and its working correctly giving a blank screen but reverse telnet doesnt seem to work correctly,it gives the msg "couldnt connect ,,,,which was coming earlier for fwd telnet" ,is this the cause?

and full message is

"ERROR: Connection failed: Could not find matching OpenDeploy client for (IM-Production-USCEDWS04-TeamSite)."

Ok,i tried the option given by you and put the value in odrcvr.xml for attribute local node host=IM-Staging-C4826665VW02-Web ,it still gives the same message as above

,its a new server OD 7.1 install,we got the below msg after first restart ,this isssue is not related to above

""ERROR: Could not bind to interface(205.138.114.152) port(20014).
along with JVM Error code 18 events log

I set the value of attribute "Deploy.rmiServerBind: 205.138.114.152' as per the page no 116 of admin pdf and restarted the server but we are still getting the same error,

The strange thing is that when i do from CMD using net start it shows success but service is still not started in services section

Do the following.

Start OpenDeploy from the command prompt on receiver.

On sender server, test a deployment like you have been trying.

If deployment succeeds, then check the following.
What account is the OpenDeploy service set to run as?
Is that account set to work with the desktop, etc?
Is the password entered correctly for the account in the service?
Does that account have enough privileges to run the service or access the files in the TeamSite\OpenDeploy directory?

Append your reciever log files.

Hi,

ACtually the receiver OD is on virtual server, it has two network connections, one with a public IP address and one with an internal IP address.

so i think it may be causing all these issues,

we are opening a support cause to check with IW if virtual servers are supported or not?and if yes ,are there some special settings?

also,could u pls tell how can we check to see following ,are there some special commands since i have seen there is no iwodstart on receiver side,

No special setting needed for a VM. And they should be supported depending on your version of OpenDeploy.

I am assuming since you said "service" that you're running Windows Server. No commands needed to check the the service settings. Go into Services, find the OpenDeploy Service and double click it. There is a tab called Log On that contains the information about what account it runs under.

Also, you didn't answer my question about whether it's running when you start it from a command prompt.

thnks for your prompt reply,no it doesnt run when we start from CMD also,the service never starts even after manual starting or overall system restart

we have installed OD 7.1.0 on win2k8 and base is OD 6.1. on Win2k3

I have checked for following queries:-

What account is the OpenDeploy service set to run as?

I think the account I am using has enough privileges,

I had this same problem. It was a simple solution. Restart the OpenDeploy service on the Base and Receiver. The one in which the service doesn't come up will be the focus of your troubleshooting. In my case it was the Receiver that didn't come up. I copied an odrcvr.xml file from another server and then added the correct entires. After that the service came up and the deployment error went away.

It seems that when editing the odrcvr.xml or odbase.xml files encoding can be an issue depending on what editor you are using. To be safe make sure you're saving in UTF-8 before you save your changes.
