autogenerate date

Hi, i do not know much about teamsite and templating.

i want to auto generate current date of the day when i generate a page while editing in teamsite. i believe its done in datacapture.cfg somehow?? can anybody tell me hows this done?

i am open to any suggestions

You need training or you need to hire someone who has the proper skill sets who can do the work for you (and possibly train you as well).

Getting the current date stored within the DCR would generally be done either via an inline-script, a callout-script, or via FormAPI as part of an onSaveValid event trigger.

Getting the current date output into a generated HTML file can either come from a value stored in the DCR or directly via code in the PT.

From a Perl perspective, you might want to look at Date::Format as a way to do the same thing:

...
use Date::Format;
my $d = time2str("%d-%m-%Y", time);
...

If you want to do this using JavaScript (FormAPI) - then you can easily look up code similar to what you posted:

...
var now        = new Date();
var curr_date  = d.getDate();
var curr_month = d.getMonth() + 1;
var curr_year  = d.getFullYear();
if (curr_date < 10) curr_date = "0" + curr_date;
if (curr_month < 10) curr_month = "0" + curr_month;
var d          = curr_date + "-" + curr_month + "-" + curr_year;
...

You could use this code directly within the DCT to set a default value, you could include it as part of an event trigger handler either within the DCT or in a separate JS file via a script tag (in either case) or you could use the perl code as part of an inline script for a default value or a callout script or as a callServer script as part of an event trigger handler.

You should be able to figure out how to do any of these things from reading the manuals and forums.

You can only use iw_perl blocks in PTs - not in DCTs - for DCTs you need to use inline scripts - I suggest you read the manuals you have and work on it a bit - you'll learn a lot more by doing it yourself than getting a spoon-fed solution on the forums.

Once you've spent some time on it - if you still cannot get it to work - post the details of what you've tried and someone here (myself or someone else) will likely be happy to nudge you in the right direction.

FormAPI Developer's Guide has nothing to do with inline - FormsPublisher Developers Guide is the manual to read - and note that inlines can be inserted pretty much anywhere within a DCT.

Thanks i got it working with inline command script... so far so good. I need to read the FormsPublisher guide to get a better understanding.
