Create empty DCR

I have a request to create an empty DCR without any data in it. I only have the data-type name and datacapture.cfg file. Once I create this empty DCR, I have to prefill some predefined values in my workflow.

Since the user will not open the DCT form to fill out the data and click on the “save or save as “ button, how can I get this done. I don’t want to use the copy of the xml structure of the DCR to do this.

So my question is, by not opening the DCT form, how can I create an empty DCR using the data-type and datacapture.cfg.

Create a shell DCR - like:[html]

[/html] either on-the-fly programmatically or in an XML file that you can copy into place with the desired name. If you need to pre-populate some fields - then you need to fill in a bit more of the structure of the record container element - but you only need the parts of the structure that you need to prepopulate.

For example - if you're doing an "iwov" DCR that has three containers (A, B, C) each with three fields (a, b, c) and you need to pre-populate the 'b' field in the 'B' container - the result would look something like::[html]

some value

[/html] If this were an "xml" DCR it would look like:::[html]

some value

[/html] The element names (e.g. root, B, b) are dependent upon how you write the DCT.

If you are asking about a generic mechanism to automatically build an "empty" DCR by the given DCT - I'm not aware of any.

You can of course try to be creative with the CC URL "newform" or even "iw.ccpro.create_form" commands. In conjunction with
the CGI Task + FormAPI code to recognize what's going on and use Save internally you can probably make it work.

Much simpler alternative is perhaps to document Empty DCR creation as part of the New Type Configuration. Then your developers
may create empty DCR manually using standard GUI and then save a File as a pattern somewhere, perhaps even outside of the Type's
Data Folder. Your WF will then simply make a named copy wherever needed (and possibly assign DCR's extended attributes if not copied)
