GetDocTypeFromPath (8.2 sp2 and later)
bfelknor
I've heard there are changes with regard to getting the document type from the path of a document.
This call is Database.GetDocTypeFromPath(sFilenamePath) and it returns a document type object.
This is failing on an 8.5 databases with "Access Denied." Does anyone know the proper usage ?

Sounds like you're just not using an account with sufficient rights? Try adding the worksite account you are using to the nrtadmin role and group, or use an existing administrator account.
I find the downside for this option is that it only gives you the types it can match automatically. As soon as you have something like JPG and JPEG, one of them will be on manual and will not be returned by this call. You have to get the non-automatic ones from the API or directly from the SQL table.

The document type mappings need to be set up correctly in the database for many of the newer file types to be recognized correctly, but even then there will be additional file types (as you mention) that cannot be identified correctly automatically by this call. Generally you must expect the identification to fail, and provide a user-definable means to associate specific file extensions with Types/Applications in WorkSite.
