Metadata datacapture.cfg

We have Version: Interwoven TeamSite 6.5.0 Service Pack 3, Build Number: 63795. We have setup to capture metadata on our Forms assets for display on our website. The datacapture.cfg, located in \iw-home\local\config, contains all the fields and select options for the metadata template used in Tagging our assets. I have a need for a field with something around 1700 optional values. When I attempt to Tag an asset after configuring for this field, TeamSite errors out. Is there any way to accomplish this task? Is there a limit to the number of select options in the datacapture.cfg? Is there a way to do this outside of the datacapture.cfg, maybe including a file?

A select list with 1700 values? Sheesh I'd hate to be a user on that system ;-)

You're probably best off using a callout and designing your own UI for gathering the selected values (strings?) and then populating a field in your MDC DCT with the results. Your UI should check for existing values, so that it can show such values as already being selected when it presents the full list to the user.
