Date is not getting resetted

Hi All,
Im stuck with an abnormal thing, like I have an Metadata tab where Im having publication and expiry date.
Im validating the publication date with the current date and if it is lessthan that Im setting the publication date to null.

And Im validating the expiry date based on publication date.

The scenario Im getting failed is:
If I select publication date as some date less than today(ex:08-14-2010)., it is validating and setting the field value null.. but when I try to validate the expiry date it is taking the publication date as "08-14-2010", which should not happen.

Im attaching my code snippet.

Can any one suggest me where Im going wron.

where is the code snippet? I guess u have forgot to attach it.
Can you also put down what is the scenario you are expecting?

The scenario is like,
Though Im not selecting the Publication field,while Im selecting the expiry date it is taking the previously validated publication date and setting the value..

It doesn't set Publish date to previous value at all for me.

I have tried all the scenarios mentioned below,

1. Enter Exp Date only it alerts to enter Pub Date and Exp Date field will be set to blank

2. Enter Pub date less than todays date, alerts to enter a date note less than today.

3. Enter Pubdate to today and enter previous Exp date, alerts that Exp should be greater than Pub. Pubdate remains the same though.

4. Enter Exp Date More than Pub date and could save the DCT. Else after entering the Exp date, I can delete the Pubdate and save.

So all these scenarios work, what else were you testing?

Where Im lost is like

2.Now select the expiry date any thing after 05-08-2010, it takes and sets the value.but actually it should give an alert publish date not set.

Well I am getting the Alert when I try the scenario as mentioned by you. I get an alert that i need ot put in Publish date first and Exp date goes blank.

I am on 6.7.2 on Linux.

I cleared all my browser cookies and checked, Im unable to get the correct validation.

Do one more thing, create a simple template with just 2 fields Pub Date and Exp date and try it from there. Try alternate fields, make both fields not required fields. This will easy debugging mostly, may be just my way of doing it. Insert alerts at each and every click.
