Saving DCR in any other location than "data" folder.

Hi everyone,
-->I have a requirement where i want to save the DCR file in some other location as well as the "data" folder.
-->I am using formsAPI and i have got the control of the Finish button using the custom code shown:-

both nipper and ghoti have suggested that it can be done and its quite easy to do it.. I have gone through the documents but can't figure out how it can be done.. any head start would be great.. thanks

I believe that post talks about auto-naming DCRs in sub-directories of data/ - not renaming the data directory itself - which I don't believe you can do because a large part of the underlying application was built with that name as a hard-coded assumption as to the [base] location of where DCRs live.

Now for the fun question: Why? Why are you trying to rename the data directory?

As Adam mentioned, in that thread Andy is referring to setting the directory and DCR name WITHIN the data folder, not outside of it. You cannot do this.

No he doesn't. He uses FormAPI and WFs to set DCRs' Name automatically. Matter of fact, in Nipper's favorite approach
(explaianed in this Forum and couple GearUp presentations) users can pick neither DCR Path nor even DCR name, it is all set
for them by CMS. Sure enough, the Path is set within (sub) folders of the templatedata/category/datatype/data Folder.

Having said that..Once the user saves the DCR in "data" folder, can i exploit the use of Teamsite's "move" command present under the File menu to move the DCR to any specific location within my workarea using FormsAPI.
When i make use of "move" command from UI i am successful in achieving the same, but how to proceed in it using FormsAPI?..
Anything anyhow related to it would be great help for me.. Thanks..

What exactly are you trying to do? FormAPI does not have anything directly for "move". You can have an onSave call server which can copy/move the DCR to some other location. Technically this is not a FormAPI feature to move/copy -- it only provides the call server mechanism to do whatever you want to do.

You could also have a "iwat triggers" for "save" event -- on save, if the file is saved under "templatedata.....", copy it to some other location.

What part of "no" don't you understand? DCR is just a File with Metadata. You can come up with any number of mechanisms to
move it around. However, FormsPublisher will recognize DCRs as DCRs only if located within (sub)folder of .../data.

Sure you can move anything you want anywhere you want as long as minor details like the DCR working like a DCR are not important to you, If you move it you will break the functionality. Go ahread, try it out, use the prod server, no one is doing anything important,

What i exactly want to do is when the user saves a DCR it should automatically get saved to some custom location outside templatedata along with getting saved in data folder. But i guess that is not possible as stated by everyone. So i thought of a workaround in the form of "copy" or/and "move" command or as suggested by vpatel, the use of iwat triggers.

You could also have a "iwat triggers" for "save" event -- on save, if the file is saved under "templatedata.....", copy it to some other location.

The reason why i cant use iwat triggers is--> the user must be able to provide the path of the file while saving it in the custom location.

Also i realised(as suggested by nipper) that even if i copy or move my files to the custom location, i will not be able to edit it from that custom location coz Teamsite requires the file to be present in data folder or its sub directories. So even this approach will fail.
The reason why i want the user to edit it from the custom location and not data folder is--> I have a requirement where if i create a DCR inside templatedata/A/data he may copy it to custom folder "A" or "B" or "C" outside templatedata, and it will become very difficult for him to recognize the dependency.
I guess i'll have to reconsider the requirement, but still if any leads i'll be more than happy.. Thanks
