This is pretty basic OpenDeploy stuff - which would seem to indicate that you haven't really used it before - yes?
Have you read the manuals? If not, I suggest you do so.

Basically - if you're deploying all the files from "source" to "target" you want a directory comparison deployment. If you want to completely sync the target from the source (such that any files in target which are not in source get deleted) you'll want to enable doDeletes.

If you're deploying a select list of files from "source" to "target" you want a file list deployment.

In either case, I'll assume that the source area is defined to be the full path to the articles/data directory in the "source" area and the target area is defined to be the full path to the articles/data directory in the "target" area. In the case of a file list deployment, the files in the file list file (sounds kind of redundant) should be specified relative to the data directory - e.g.: ./foo.dcr)

Also in either case, you'll want to enable the transfer of EAs.

Alternatively, you could probably just use the TeamSite Edit > Copy To... menu option and skip OpenDeploy entirely.
