Time Zone of datetime value saved in Site Publisher component

We created a custom SitePublisher component that uses a Calendar.
In the Calendar, CMS users may choose a Date and Time value.
When the page is saved, we find that the datetime value is stored in the same timezone as the CMS server (in our case, it's Central Time).

However, we would prefer to store the data in UTC. Is there a means to configure the Calendar so that data is stored in UTC?

you can either add an external process to convert the date and time format or customize the calendar to return the desired format.

Could you give an example of what you mean by "external process"?

Why not let it store the date in its default format but whenever you are processing it have a global function that'll evaluate it to whatever format you want it in?
