Branch/workarea setup in the Teamsite server

My objective is to setup my branches and workareas with out uploading content in them. After this i provide this branch/workarea skeleton as a backing store which would simply be copied on to the production teamsite server. The reason for this is that the person setting up the production server wont have to go the process of re-creating the branches/workareas, he would only migrate the provided backing store on to the production server.

Is this a posibility ?

What version of TeamSite?
What platform?
What do you mean by "provide this branch/workarea skeleton as a backing store"? Is this a real TeamSite backing store from another TeamSite server? or just a directory structure that you created and stored within a zip or tar file?

It is possible to script this, but depending on the above questions, you may not have to do so.

What i mean is working on my development Teamsite Server, i create a new backing store and create my branches and empty workareas in it. After that i could simply take that backing store and provide it as a build which would serve as the branch/workarea setup for the production Teamsite server. Doing this would simplify the deployment process on to the production server as the person doing the deployment would only have to put in and activate the provided backing store rather than follow the steps to re-create branches and workareas.

Platform is Solaris and Teamsite version is 552.

I believe that should work - I can't say I have any experience doing that, so there is still room for doubt, but it sounds plausible.

Hey Eddie,

I've got a script for you that'll do just that. I was upgrading from 5.0 to 5.5 (without the whole conversion process), and I wrote a script that you run on Server A. You give it a branch name on Server A, and the script will create another shell script that will re-construct the branches and workareas it finds on Server A.

You ftp that script over to Server B and run it, and it'll create an identical set of branches and workareas. Of course, make sure the users and groups exist on server B before you run it.

I've attached the script to the left. It's harmless on Server A, so just run it like this:
'./extract_create_commands.pl' and it'll spit out a shell script in /tmp called "build_branches.sh". Look in that script to see what commands it will run when you execute the script on Server B. Also, when you run the script on server B, I think you should be logged in as a user with a master role.
