Customization in the Textarea item

Hi All,

I want to display the remaining characters below textarea. Whenever the user types inside the textarea the remaining character should get reduced based on number of characters the user types.

Can anyone help me on this. Lat me know if u have any idea.

You can perhaps use Item's Label or extra read-only text below the item to maintain your Counter.
Note though that it's not just counter++, your user may delete symbols, cut/paste many characters
in one click and so on. That's details though, you can for example use (limit - value.length) to
determine the counter, etc...

Bigger problem is that FormAPI does not support onKeyDown / onKeyUp events. Sure enough, you can hack
a DC Form and *inject* plain JS Event Handlers to control these events. Although possible it's neither
documented nor supported.

Personally I think this *widget* value does not warrant development and support efforts. If I were you I
would use FormAPI onItemChange or perhaps one of the onSave Events to control textarea length, set error,
warn user and the like.

Alternatively, make the textarea itself read-only and provide a callout button to launch your own custom CGI window in which you would present, and have more full control [easily] over a textarea and the events that take place while populating it. You would then have to make sure that on submit of the CGI that the actual DCT textarea is made read-write, populated, and then made read-only again.

Frankly, I agree with Boris - but if you really feel you need to do this, the above is probably the approach I would take.
