Retrieving files from hidden edition

Hi,

Our users want to archive some of their content by taking them off line from the web site. They want the source file to reside in TeamSite even after taking them off line from the web site and Staging area.

I know that in TeamSite even when a file is deleted in the workarea and the deletion is submitted to staging and then the file is recreated in TeamSite GUI, the version and all of the history of the file show up for the file.

Is there a Command line tool or a java API to do this programmatically?

As far as I recall, Hidden Editions (with the serial number in place of a name)
were discarded by TS long time ago (since V6.1?). They no longer exist.

Submit your File(s), publish an Edition, remove the File, submit a deletion.
(All that can be done from GUI or programmatically with Perl/CLT or Java CSSDK).
You done. If you restore the File later on, it will re-appear with history.

Anna would need to know which hidden edition has the object and just use an open.

Well there mist be a java equivalent to iwattrib.

you can run this

iwattrib -l /default/main/branch/WORKAREA/Content/some/path/deleted_file.txt

and it will return the attributes

You will need to play with those and see if you can get the proper data.

something like

iwattrib /default/main/branch/WORKAREA/Content/some/path/deleted_file.txt prevversion

will give the object ID of the previous version.

I'm not sure "search" will work as (a) I'm not sure TS Search will search "hidden" editions and (b) I'm pretty sure that the IFS prevents general OS searching / find from traversing into hidden edition directories --- however, with the above information (for example), if you have access to a shell on the server, you could explicitly CD into that path (e.g.: /iwmnt/default/main/branch/EDITION/#165) and once inside it you could use basic OS searching - or just directory navigation to find the file you want.

From the TS UI - you could find another file in the same directory (one with a number of versions going back to before the desired file was deleted) - click on Properties, then click on Versions, then click on Submit Details for a version that existed prior to the deletion - then click on the link associated with Archived In; find the file you want, select it, and then use Edit > Copy To... to copy it back into the workarea.

Are there CSSDK routines to accomplish this same process? Probably, but I've never had to do this so I don't know them off-hand and can't spare the time to look through the CSSDK Java docs -- however you should be able to peruse them to see if you can find one or more (probably "more") methods that look like they will get you to the same end-result.
