Unlock Files

Should Admin be a master to unlock files? User who is an Admin but not master is not able to unlock the files. Can anyone suggest me the reason?

When you say Admin" - do you mean someone who is a member of a Windows Administrators group or do you mean the TeamSite role "Administrator"?

If the former - is this user associated with any role in TeamSite? And if you're talking about 6.7.x - are they associated with a role on the particular branch on which they're trying to unlock a file?

The user is the member of Teamsite Administrators group and the user has a Admin role in the particular branch on which he is trying to unlock the files.
We are using Teamsite 6.7.1 SP1.

As a master, click on the Administrators tab, Select Roles and Permissions -> Manage Roles -> Edit Administrator -> More detail on Files, Forms and Folders. See if unlock files is checked. Sounds like it is not.

I checked it. The unlock files box is checked. But still not able to unlock.

Are you getting any specific error while trying to unlock?

It gives a "Permission Denied" error. But the user has Admin level permissions. Except that the user is not a Master. We checked all the permissions and the possibilities this error could occur. But found nothing odd.

Can you check when that particular user is at a location where the file is locked and if you mouse over a link "About" on the top right corner of the window, what roles you can see for that Admin user?

I do not know if this can help, but what is the locking model on this branch?

The user has the roles, "Administrator, Editor" when the mouse is over "About". We use Submit Locking model.

Hi, we have same issue. But in our case the unlocking is from the perl program calling in the workflow.

iwunlock vpath

It is giving "ERROR:00013: Permission denied". But when we run the same command from DOS prompt it is unlocking. When we are using the same command in the program to unlock, do we have to set any special permissions?

The perl script is calling from Workflow. The branch has submit lock mode. Thanks.

All the Administrators has this problem. But when we Admin is made as a Master, then the user is able to unlock the file. We tried creating new users and assigning Admin permissions. But it is the same. Still couldnt find a solution for it.

There was one problem that I had encountered with "Admin' role in available_models.cfg. When I used the role name as "administrator" it did not work and worked when I used "admin". Please see example below (< and > is removed) Don't know if this is relevant in your case, but worth a look.

No, This is not an expected TeamSite behaviour for Administrator.
I tried at my end and it just works fine(Administrator able to unlock any file)

Did you open a ticket with Interwoven support? first I think you need to do that while you are waiting for someone response here.

All the Administrators has this problem. But when we Admin is made as a Master, then the user is able to unlock the file. We tried creating new users and assigning Admin permissions. But it is the same. Still couldnt find a solution for it.

You can enable the servletd debbugging from
http:///iw-cc/command/iw.base.loggers

Enable the debugging for com.interwoven.ui.teamsite.filesys

Then try to unlock the file once again and paste the exception the servletd.log file.

this should give us a clue

I am not sure if this behavior changed in later releases of Teamsite. In our environment, we had to develop a custom menu item that is accessible only for custom roles to unlock other user's files.

I have created a user 'AA' who is not a workarea owner or master and assigned a role as Administrator for that branch.
Now I locked a file by some other user 'BB' and logged out. logged in again with 'AA' user and try to unlock the file which is locked by 'BB' user. just worked fine.

I hope as long as unlock property is checked for Administrator role, it will work fine.
I didn't see any such problem so far.
