Hi all,

We've recently begun to work on the corporate Intranet and have run into a VFE snag: a save loop upon the addition of a apostrophe.
Here's hoping someone can help me out with a workaround.

Upon switching between code mode and WYSIWYG or on saving VFE inserts FILE which triggers the addition of an ektron comment:

Please ignore the font tags Autonomy is inserting.
This will save normally unless there is an apostrophe anywhere in the document [fairly common] at which point the DCT saves endlessly.

Does someone have an alternate format for the anchor tag that will not trigger VFE inserting FILE or where I might be able to nix the addition of the Ektron comment that is really the issue?

Why would your user put their href as a backslash like this \ when it needs to be a forward slash like this /. That's why it's putting in the FILE:. It thinks the user is trying to access something on the file system instead of the web server.

Yes, this is our Intranet and that is exactly what they are trying to do: provide a link to the shared file system. Link works, and validates, with either the \\ or FILE but not with the Ektron comment that gets added by VFE upon the addition of FILE.

Are you using some FormAPI anywhere that might not be liking the apostrophe?

While possible it is unlikely. All dcts are processed the same and there is only a problem with apostrophies once the Ektron comment is inserted.

I'd hoped to avoid "one-of" regexes in the savehandler, but if none of the brilliant minds on this board can come up with anything else, that may be our only choice: user codes it with an http and we use regex to remove it and flip the slashes. But we are still going to have a lot of "save" loops because people forget.

For what it's worth, it's working fine for me.

Can you attach your datacapture.cfg file? That might help. Also, what version of TeamSite, patches, and OS are you running.

Can you also hold down your shift key, then left click in the VFE area to get the diagnostics. Attach info from the OS and Version fields.

Also look into changing the autoclean config value.

1) Teamsite version 6.7.2 build 69626, windows 2003
Client os W2K or XP IE6. We have xhtml1 strict enabled
To upload I changed the file extension from.cfg to .txt but rest assured it is correct in production

2) shift key, then left click in the VFE area: does nothing (our VFE is inline if that makes a difference) but running http://servername/iw/ewebeditpro20/test.htm gives Version of ewebeditpro5.ocx actually installed: 5,1,0,41 Operating System: Microsoft Windows (Windows 95 or later required), Browser: Internet Explorer, version 6 (IE 5.5 or later required)

When you say "it works for you",
A) DId the \\ switch to file and did the Ektron comment get added to the bottom of the container?

did you ensure that there was a single quote/apostrophe somewhere in the same text container?
It seems to require the quote and the comment to have the behaviour.

Also attach your visualformatconfig.xml file (if changed) from /iw-home/httpd/iw.

I thought ony "visualformat" and "tinymce" were valid value for external-editor. Is external-editor="EDITOR" valid,?

Also, shouldn't external-editor-inline be either t or f?

Shouldn't your reference. to your custom visualformatconfig file end with xml (ie external-editor-config="EDITOR_CONFIG.xml"?

As we use the same DCT for the majority of our sites it was decided that the datacapture would reside in the iw-home... of the admin store and that each workarea would have a config file that specifies its VFE controller. In essence EDITOR is just a variable that picks up the proper VFE.xml file.

I've attached the controller file for this intranet site, but I had to zip it.

Okay, so your users are selecting the "Hyperlink" button on the toolbar?

When I do it my link looks like this after browsing. file://F:\future.txt

The fact that your file:/ is missing it's slashes as well as the rest of your url, it makes it look like something is doing a search and replace on your back slashes and removing them.

Since I cannot see your entire DCT to see if you are using any FormAPI it is hard to tell if that's doing something to your field.

I have tried and cannot repeat this issue. I use IE 6 as well and the rest of my info is below.

Change autoclean="true" to autoclean="false" and see what happens.

Users generally do not browse to the links. They are importing HTML from Homesite or Dreamweaver, or existing webpages.

Thanks I know it is in the XML clean process because if you have an accessibility error that you do not fix but tell it to save anyway: you do not get the loop as the xml clean is not called.

I just wish I could ask Ektron directly where I could disable the addition of their comment, but I'm not allowed to subscribe to their forum: everything has to go through Autonomy. I have a case open on this but I've not had much luck with 3rd party add-on issues being resolved to the satisfaction of our clients. The rare "cure" is worse than the disease or not corporately feasible (upgrading = 6mths-1yr for even a patch)

I used the editor to add the link and it added another Ektron comment below the first one (looking at the DCT via the file system). If you have enough links that comment section is going to get lengthy.

One more item to add.

If I use the contents of your servicecanada-prv_vfcfg.xml I get occassionally get the following error. I seem to only be able to trigger it with the apostrophe.

You might be getting these errors, but won't see them if Script Debugging is disabled in your IE.

Remove the reference to your custom servicecanada-prv_vfcfg.xml file and try it again.

Thank you for all of your help.

We put a regex in the save handler to remove the Ektron comment. I'd prefer to not have it inserted in the first place than to remove it each time but it does work.

Sure we added the following regex to the savehandler. Even wrapping it in code tags doesn't let it go through so I'll attach it

This handles the comment(s) however, not having them added in the first place would be the best solution. As it stands each time the file is opened in the editor, the comments are re-added and then removed upon saving.
