How to implement exclude rule for deletions of shared directories

In an existing Work area we have a folder called "us" which was previously shared between workareas. Now we dont require that in specific work areas and when I try to delete it, it deletes all "us" folders from the rest of the workareas as well.

How do I exclude the others from being deleted?

How are you trying to delete it?

TeamSite 101: Workareas are views of the branch (staging area) - as such anything that is in one workarea on a given branch should be in all workareas on that branch - except for files currently being modified in any given workarea (that's where submit + Get Latest comes into play).

Any attempt you make to have files or directories versioned in one workarea but not show up in another workarea is doomed from the start - and the further you try to proceed with it, the more problems you are going to have.

If you want to restrict access to files or folders - do so at the file system level (and via submit.cfg), and then using both file system and role access restrictions to the workareas you can make it so that users of one workarea will not have access to certain files and folders while users of another workarea will. This is an imperfect situation though as some roles (e.g.: Master) may be able to traverse through directories that they don't otherwise have access to - at least on some OS's.

However my major concern was when I delete the folder from a single workarea it gets deleted from other workareas aswell.

you need training

nothing happens until you submit the delete. After that the other workareas need to get in sync with an updatetask, get latest or iwupdate.

This is a reason many people use shared workareas. The only reliable way is to use a WF task to update.
