Site Mapping in LS

When we create a new Site in the LS/SP we define Site Addresses and
Directory for the Site. After deployment we access the site using http://sitename/directory/. Where is this mapping for different sites stored in Livesite environment?.

As far as I've ever seen it, those properties you set in default.site are only used for custom purposes via request.getSite() and possibly have something to do with the targeting engine. But in terms of hitting a URL like
http://livesite Smiley Tongue

ort/sitename
all LiveSite will do is see if runtime-root/sites/sitename exists and contains a valid default.site and the default.site refers to a valid start page.

we access all our sites using directory name defined using site creation and not the site name

ex:
site name:ReallyLongSiteName
directory:rlsn

Even though we have runtime-root/sites/ReallyLongSiteName, we access it using http://servername/rlsn
