Manual RSS Viewer component

rommela

Hi,

I'm trying to use the Manual RSS Viewer component and it appears to work on some RSS feeds but not others. ie. works for http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories but not http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympic-news/news-rss/

Does anyone know why it works for some RSS feeds and not any others. I can't find any documentation about this within the manuals or within the installation files.

Thanks.

When you say not working, what do you mean? What happens / what type of behavior do you get when the component renders?

If i only include the "Manual RSS Viewer" component on the page, besides my page template, then only the template appears when I preview.

Viewing the html source, the location where the RSS feeds should display is an empty rss-body div...

...
< div class="rss-body" / >< / div >
...

whereas the working yahoo feed is...

...
< div class="rss-body" >< div class="rss-item" >< div class="rss-title" >< a href="http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/rss/topstories/*http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100223/ts_nm/us_quake_haiti_missionaries" >U.S. missionaries still held in Haiti to be freed
...

(spaces added in code to display)

Have you tried any other feeds besides Yahoo? Is the Olympic one unaccessible for some reason?

You could debug the component itself by logging the XML that is returned from these feeds and see if you are at least getting what you are expecting.

yeah, there's some feeds that work and some feeds that don't work...I'm not sure what's different about these feeds but I will start looking into the component and xslt.

I was hoping that someone had already experienced this issue or had some technical specs. I guess I'll have to build my own component based on this one.
