Deleting a deployed file

If I have deployed a bunch of files to the runtime environment and now I want to delete one of them , how can I do that ?
I can run the deployment again by turning on "doDelete" feature and deleting file from source. Whats the other way of deleting a file from production ?

Secondly, I have a file in production and I want it in development environment, ho0w to do that ? How can I run reverse deployment for this file ? Is there other way than reverse deployment ? Please keep in mind that this is not a new file generated in prod, its a file deployed from dev. Now file in dev is not available and I want to get it from prod.

Be careful with the doDeletes option. If you're doing an area comparison, it will make the target look exactly like the source, deleting any files on the target that are not on the source. If you're doing a filelist deployment, it will compare only those files that are in the list, i.e. if an entry in your filelist is not present in your source area, it will be deleted from the target area. Also guard against deploying an empty filelist with doDeletes=true, because in the past that used to delete the entire area on the target. Hopefully that's been fixed, but I've guarded against that scenario ever since, for obvious reasons.

As for your second question, it sounds like you need to reevaluate your process. You make it sound like the file not being in dev is a special circumstance, in which case I'd say just copy it using standard means instead of writing a one-off in OD. If that's not the case, please clarify what's going on in terms of dev-teamsite, prd-teamsite, dev-target, prd-target.

Actually, this technique (ie, filelist Deployment with doDeletes of the Files that are "not there")
is the only OTB supported mechanism for pointed file-by-file removal of already deployed files.
Any other method to do it that I know of requires some coding.

Comparison deployments with doDeletes enabled should work as rpoulin described - it's just that usually you need to add filters for both source and target side to prevent files that you don't want deleted (because they aren't maintained in TeamSite) from being deleted.

Thanks for the replies. So doDelete is the only readymade option available to delete a deployed file from prod environment. I have to be careful to make sure that I dont delete other files.

Regarding second question. I have a file in prod and same file is deleted from dev environment. I dont have access to prod environment and now I want file from prod to dev. What shall I do ?

Again, this sounds like a one-time occurrence. Ask an admin or someone that DOES have access to prod to retrieve the file for you. Trying to fish out a random file with OD is just plain silly.
