How to Update LWP module

Hi,

I want to install the new version of LWP::UserAgent in our teamsite server.
http://search.cpan.org/~gaas/libwww-perl-5.834/lib/LWP.pm

Could some one throw lights to it. I installed it as per the below url link.

http://lwp.interglacial.com/ch01_03.htm

But it did not get installed in the perl lib directory(/opt/interwoven/apps/TeamSite/iw-perl/vendor/lib/LWP)

Then I manually copied those pm files to the above directory,and now it is throwing "internal serer error".

Please let me know your thoughts on this,

Anything you install should go into IWHOME/iw-perl/site/lib/ - which, if you look at the @INC path, you'll see comes before vendor/lib - and thus will be picked up through normal referencing.

The fact that you've manually mucked around means that all bets are off with respect to your old state, your current state, and your desired state. Keep in mind that it is possible that the version of the module you downloaded won't work with the version of perl used by TS. Although iwperl is fairly recent it's not the most-recent version of Perl and it is possible that the latest version of LWP requires newer versions of a bunch of other modules - one of which might actually require a newer version of Perl (I'm not saying this is the case, just that it might be the case)

When you say you followed the instructions - did you use iwperl or just perl to bootstrap the process? If the latter - are you sure you don't have any other version of Perl on your PATH?

Hi,

Now I reverted all the changes and is working as usual.
No "internal server error"

But the issue now I see is , the new installed module got installed in
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/LWP.pm

but the iwperl and my cgi seems to be referring the lib
located in
/opt/interwoven/apps/TeamSite/iw-perl/vendor/lib/LWP

Is it possible to install the new LWP module in the iw-perl installed location instead of /usr/lib/perl5/ ?

Hmm - very strange, either it wasn't installed correctly in site or something is screwy with your iwperl.

What do you see when you run: iwperl -V | tail

I'd suggest re-trying to build/install the newer LWP module into iwperl/site/lib - since clearly some thing didn't work or otherwise the one-liner at the top would have shown it coming from there instead of from vendor/lib.

The iwperl -V results are not going to change - it's the other one-liner that we're looking for results to change for:

iwperl -MLWP -le 'print $INC{"LWP.pm"}'

What bothers me in what you posted above is that you ran Makefile.PL with perl instead of iwperl - if you have any other Perl on your PATH before iwperl - then you will be using that Perl's engine to build/install the module instead of iwperl - and you want to use iwperl. If you use iwperl you should not have to specify the PREFIX, it should default to that correctly.

However - before you go through that process again, run the one-liner to see if anything has changed.

Well you renamed a file you need. Go figure this is not working. You should be able to figure out why this is not working and what you need to do to make it work.

Once again - I suggest you back out ALL of your changes and start again.
This time - try running IWHOME/iw-perl/bin/cpan - go through the configuration settings, and then ask it to install LWP and let it check all of its dependencies, etc.
