Oracle Long Raw to Blob

Hi all,

We've been using Teamsite for years without the Event subsystem and are just now implementing it in Production [win 2003 server, Oracle 9i database {don't ask someday we'll get to 10 or 11g}, Teamsite 6.7.2, search 3.1.1]. The problem I'm running into is that the production DBA doesn't want to let the deprecated datatype LONG RAW go forward. He wants a a CLOB or a BLOB.

What Teamsite documentation I've found concerning the database is about a paragraph long and pretty much states run the table create scripts pertaining to the database you want to use, configure jmsconfignew.xml and away you go. True enough --> away we went in development, but as I say the prod DBA is having nothing to do with a "DEPRECATED" datatype.

Can anyone speak to this datatype change?

I'd suggest you contact Support - since you're talking about trying to change something that is essentially part of the underlying product rather than a "standard" customization.

You did get a quick answer - it's just not the one you wanted

Unfortunately, Support seems to be understaffed / overworked these days and more unfortunately, the products seem to be getting more complicated rather than easier - so there's more work for them to do. But if you're trying to change an aspect of the underlying program, one that is not intended to be field-customized (as far as I know) - then you really don't have any other route - unless you get extremely lucky and someone else here ran into and resolved the same problem.

For anyone else facing the same difficulty here is the official response to switching the datatype of messageBlob from Long Raw to Blob:

Susan,

Changing the datatype from LONG RAW to BLOB would be unsupported.
You are currently on Oracle 9i, Oracle should supports the long format in this version as well as 10g. You should not have any problem there.
