Get date in a particular format

Hi All,

Thanks in advance. When I try to extract the creation date of the edition using iwattrib , it gives me in the below format,

Wed May 11 14:14:36 2011

I would like to get the date in the mm/dd/yyyy format. I am trying to determine a best way to do this. Any pointers?
