Photoshop PSDs downloaded from MediaBin won't resave

MediaBin 4.6.2 / Windows 2003

A user uploaded several Photoshop files to MediaBin, tried to download them, and we cannot resave them in Photoshop without it crashing. I tried downloading 5 files in both the web client and the windows client, and Photoshop crashes when I try to resave it with a different name. I have a copies of three of the original files, which never were uploaded to MediaBin, and I can resave those files in Photoshop without it crashing, so the originals are not corrupted.

Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, were you able to resolve it?

Oddly, I just got the same problem from a user last night. I assumed the files were corrupted in some fashion on upload (i.e. MediaBin mucked them up somehow). Are these CS4 files? We've been having chronic CS4 problems with AI and PSD files and have ticket(s) with support.

I'd opened a ticket with support; they told me the problem is related to smart object layers in the files. If I delete the smart objects from a "good" file, upload it, then download it, it will resave. But a better option may be to use the 'Get Original' task. If I download a PSD using the 'Get Original" task, I can resave it.

Get Original is a problem if there are multiple versions of a particular upload. Smiley Sad

I'll definitely check with the user about the Smart Object Layers…

…just checked. No Smart Object Layers in any of the three files. Wierder still, another user tried to download the same file and had no problems. Just checked and sure enough, Get Original.

To be clear, (Get Original) does not represent a problem with multiple check-ins. It will retrieve the last version just like any other task. The only difference is that it will not merge any metadata edits made in MediaBin into the PSD file.

We are actively looking into the issues with smart objects. Unfortunately Adobe stopped documenting their formats fully well short to CS 4 and so we have to do a certain amount of educated guesswork.

So what *is* the difference between Get Original and None?

And why is None failing for PSDs that *don't" have Smart Objects?
