How do I show latest DCR of a specific type

I'm sure it's in some manual somewhere, but damned if I can find it.

I would like to display "the most recent" DCR of a specific type. For example, press releases are issued all the time.
I'm looking for two things:
1) I want a component to display the most recent one.
2) I want to create an index page of the 50 most recent ones.

You can set extended attrbutes on the DCR for last modified date on save event and can access that information in component using externals.
Infact you can read last modified date attribute of DCR file itself (using externals) and there is not even a need to set extended attribute. Based on the latest dates you can display the news.
