I have developed a Java website for a client. They have Weblogic and Apache which is maintained by a 3rd party server vendor.

The 2 ways I can deploy the website are
1. Deploy on the test server and the client pays the server vendor a fee for synchronizing the test deployment to live.
2. Use Interwoven.

As I have to pay a deployment fee every time I want to update the website. It gets a bit expensive, as updates come in every month.

So I was thinking of learning how to use Interwoven from a deployment perspective only. I have the document OpenDeploy® Administration Guide 5.5.1.

Am I reading the right document? Are there any resources online, which can guide me with a step-by-step instructions on how to deploy to Interwoven?

I am interested in learning about Intervowen only to the extent of using a GUI tool to deploy. Is there such a guide? Smiley Happy

1) Do you have OpenDeploy installed already? you will need a base server in your source and receiver server in your target.

2)If you have OpenDeploy then you are probably newer version than 5.5.1, you would have 6.2.x and the GUI is different between the 5.x and 6.x. Admin guide does have a lot of info but you will also need to the deploy guide which has instruction to configure a deployment.

3) If you don't have Opendeploy then you might want to look into the cost to get it before you learn how to use it. Interwoven solutions aren't cheap either.

Besides the grammatical fixes above - the information is basically correct, though the latest version of OpenDeploy is actual 7.1. If you don't want the latest, then 6.2.1 would be the preferred version to use.

The nice thing about OpenDeploy is that it installs quickly and easily, and although it has a lot of flexibility in the configuration aspect, the basic usage is also pretty easy and the OpenDeploy manuals tend to be better / more complete / more correct than many of the other Autonomy Interwoven product manuals.

Note - the cost of OpenDeploy is on a per-installation basis ($x * BaseServers) + ($y * Receivers) plus a yearly maintenance fee (I believe it is something like 10% of the license cost. Once you have it installed though, you can do thousands of deployments a day and not have to pay anything extra for them.

If you are certain licenses are not a problem then OpenDeploy will work fine for you. It is easy to install and set up in a base configuration. Once it is set up, it works quite well, very little (if any) on going maintenance.
