working with XMP in mediabin

Hello,

So I have a few queries. I am running 4.5.3.

1.) I am trying to map the XMP field "rating" in mediabin as this is not one of the OOTB mediabin/xmp fields. I have done the following. Added the following XML file to \\mbdata\MBDataDirectory\XMP\SMPMapping.xml (periods added so it doesn't get filtered by the forum):

I've restarted mediabin, but no luck the field is not mapping. I've tried it both ways. Entered the information via Photoshop, then opened in MediaBin *and* entered the information in MediaBin and opened in Photoshop. No luck. I am running CS4. Which leads me to question 2.

2). I have filled in the OOTB MediaBin "Photoshop field" that are supposed to map to XMP - However when I open these in Photoshop CS4 there is NO metadata, if the same file is opened in Photoshop CS3 the fields are showing up as populated. What's going on??

Also, on an aside, the forum searching parameters should be adjusted as you cannot search for the keyword "XMP" that's a HUGE problem!

Not certain what the use case is here. You are trying to introduce a custom MediaBin field and a custom XMP tag so that the field is introduced whenever you save or ingest a file? Or is this an XMP field that already exists and you want MediaBin to interact with it?

These are all things that are well-tested and so Support should be able to help you sort things out. I agree that the scripting protections in the forum can make life difficult!

Hi lyman, thanks for responding. Its for the XMP field "Ratings". So it is an existing XMP field that we want mediabin to interact with.

Also, I've found that MB 4.5.3 does not embed XMP metadata into files even for the supposedly Photoshop specific fields? Is this correct?

Well, MediaBin appears to be embedding metadata now. However, I still have the question regarding why the XMP mappings is not working.

You have to restart the service for it to recognize the changes in the XMPMapping.xml file. Did you do that?

What you describe should work. Can you open a case with Support so they can send me the actual XML file rather than fighting with the forum? I will try to get in touch with the forum admins to see if there is anything we can do about its hyperactive filters!
